Sadhu Sunder Singh and an Angel’s Encounter is a remarkable story of faith and divine intervention, where a heavenly messenger guides him through a miraculous experience, strengthening his spiritual journey.

Sadhu Sunder Singh
The Sadhu happened upon several nomads traveling around with their herds when he arrived at the slopes of Mount Kailash. He requested directions from them to the closest village in the area. The nomads purposefully misled him because they feared and disliked having him among them. They brought this foreigner, who did not appear Tibetan, along a perilous road through the forest that did not lead anywhere. He, who was completely unfamiliar with the region, took their bad counsel to heart and went on the route they suggested.
Miles passed without noticing any villages. Over the entire Tibetan plateau, night was falling like a heavy blanket. He stopped in front of a riverbank. There was nothing else he could do. The screaming howls of forest animals filled the cold air, sending chills up and down his body. Despite his valiant efforts, he was unable to successfully cross the river. The tired traveler, on the verge of tears, settled himself on the banks.

The Sadhu started to cry, resting his head on arms crossed over knees pulled to his chest. His unfortunate situation let him feel the full weight of despair. He believed he heard a man’s voice after a little while. He looked up to see a man sitting by a fire on the other side of the river. This was odd. When he first arrived at the bank, he saw no one nearby. To the Sadhu, the guy gestured: “Do not worry! I am here to assist you!
Sadhu Sundar Singh felt a great sense of relief. He believed that someone from the neighborhood had come to his aid. He was astounded by his rescuer’s daring swim across the swift-moving river. The man said, “Sit tight and still on my shoulder and do not fear!” when he arrived at the perplexed Sadhu. He steadied himself on the wide shoulders of the stranger. Now carrying the lanky Sadhu on his back, the valiant good Samaritan was ready to face the ferocious river again.
The Sadhu sat on those powerful shoulders and was amazed at the impossibility of it. He had been overwhelmed by the river. But with him on his back, this stranger was slicing across the river like a knife on butter. Only if the superhuman strength somehow sprang from an incredibly compassionate heart could such an impossible deed be imagined. This local native must have often displayed such incredible bravery and kindness. The Sadhu promised to share the gospel with the visitor as soon as they got to the opposite side of the bank.

The stranger lifted the Sadhu off his shoulders gently and safely across. The Sadhu turned to thank the stranger as he walked a few feet up the bank. Unfortunately! What a marvel! The stranger had disappeared. The fire wasn’t either. The enigmatic man and his flames had just disappeared! The Sadhu let out a startled gasp. It dawned on him abruptly that God had sent His angel to save him. He fell to his knees and hurriedly prayed to God in gratitude.
